California National Historic Trail was established in 1992 . The trail traverses through the states of Kansas , Missouri , Oregon , Utah etc . The trail covers a distance of 5665 miles . A plethora of buildings bearing the vestiges of history are located in the trail . A lot of people from the agricultural fraternity and workers use this path to travel to California . Some of the voyagers who explored the routes are Peter Skene Ogden , Benjamin Bonneville etc . The path has witnessed the maximum transfer of people within America . Previously , the route was traversed on horseback .People also used boats to travel through the trail . Some of the people covered the entire route by foot .
